Conservation and Preservation work
In the case of this valuable works racing Porsche, which has survived without ever sustaining any serious damage or structural corrosion, the approach called for has been one of ‘minimal intervention’. This way, such an important historic example has been ‘conserved’ (to prevent loss or deterioration) and ‘preserved’ (to keep in unaltered condition).
Minimal intervention included mechanical maintenance work and fresh fluid changes. Also, the restoration and back-painting by hand of the two original drivers names and flags which were present on the front wings of R13 at the 1974 Le Mans 24 hrs, where this Porsche finished 2nd overall.
